Community Internship: United Way of Franklin County
The community internship I served was with The United Way of Franklin County. The United Way is very involved with the school system in Franklin County and also funds many grants for teachers each year. While completing my internship at the United Way, I was involved in Days of Care that were used to work on projects with community wide volunteers in order to make an impact on the future of Franklin County. I worked with the United Way to bring volunteers together to address urgent needs facing our community. Through donations and the volunteering of community stakeholders, I worked with the director of United Way to repaint the buildings and beautify the grounds of the Boys and Girls Club in Louisburg. I also volunteered with The United Way to supply school supplies to our schools in Franklin County.
The community internship with the United Way afforded me the opportunity to work with members of the community in which I live and work. I saw strategies used that urge people to want to volunteer and help in the area that they live. This internship allowed me to create partnerships with businesses that can be used during my principal residency at Franklinton Middle School and throughout my career.
