Principals will create conditions that result in strategically re-imaging the school’s vision, mission, and goals in the 21st century. Understanding that schools ideally prepare students for an unseen but not altogether unpredictable future, the leader creates a climate of inquiry that challenges the school community to continually re-purpose itself by building on its core values and beliefs about its preferred future and then developing a pathway to reach it.

Element 1A: School Vision, Mission and Strategic Goals
At the start of the school year, our staff completed a puzzle to show what each member brings to Franklinton Middle Schools. Each faculty member chose a word that represented them and their relationship with the students at FMS. This process established the values and beliefs that we will strive to represent in our vision and mission. This poster is placed in the office as a daily reminder of what we bring to our students each day.

Element 1B: Leading Change
This year, I worked with the leadership team and county leaders to implement PBIS for improvement and change that will lead to success for Franklinton Middle school. We began with an assembly to explain expectations to students. We also presented each student with an agenda that they would use in class for discipline purposes. Using PBIS, teachers worked to have less discipline referrals by reinforcing positive behavior.

I developed and implemented a remediation plan for Franklinton Middle School. The plan was implemented to work with students to increase their reading and math scores. Student groups changed over the course of the year to meet the proficiency level goals. Over time, the remediation plan afforded the students an opportunity for better understanding of concepts being taught.

Element 1D: Distributive Leadership
As bus coordinator, I created scheduling plans for duties for before and after school to ensure the safety of all students. The schedule allowed for teachers to be held accountable for creating a safe environment in different areas of the school and campus while I am fulfilling my duties with buses.
